Abuse – Emotional, Physical, Sexual
Abuse can take many forms and can be divided into physical, sexual, mental and emotional. All forms of abuse can cause serious harm, psychological stress and suffering.
Being a victim of any form of abuse is a traumatic experience. In addition to mental trauma, physical abuse can also lead to serious physical injury. Experiencing violence can be characterised by the following complications:
•Insecurity and fear,
•Anxiety,
•Feelings of guilt and shame,
•Worthlessness,
•Helplessness and powerlessness,
•Anger and aggression,
•Bitterness and desire for revenge,
•Depression and self-destructive behavior,
•Physical symptoms such as headache, sleep problems, abdominal pain.
More often violence is kept a secret. Regardless of the type of abuse, the victim may be silent about what is happening and about their trauma or make excuses for the inexcusable behaviour of another person. It may be difficult for a person who is a victim of a sudden act of violence to recognise/accept the reality of what happened, and then they turn for help only long after the event. In the case of violence, it is not always known that it is a crime, and information does not always reach officials.
Abuse survivors often experience feelings of guilt and shame that make it difficult to seek help. Fear of the abuser or, for example, belief that the situation will improve in the event of violence in the immediate environment can also discourage seeking help. Lingering bullying and psychological abuse leads to a weakening of self-esteem, and then seeking help seems impossible.
In the event of violence, you should always seek help!
